About Kirindi Ella Waterfall
Kirindi Ella is one of Deniyaya's best-kept secrets — a slender yet powerful waterfall nestled in a deep valley clothed in virgin tropical vegetation. Unlike busier tourist falls, Kirindi Ella offers absolute solitude and pristine natural beauty.
The falls drop approximately 25 meters in a single graceful cascade, sending a fine veil of mist across a natural amphitheatre of giant tree ferns, wild orchids, and ancient boulders draped in fluorescent green moss.
The approach trek is itself a sensory delight: you pass through cinnamon plantations, cross tiny bamboo bridges over babbling streams, and hear the chorus of cicadas and forest birds long before you catch your first glimpse of the silvery cascade.
Experience Highlights
How to Reach from Rainforest River Song Villa
Take a tuk-tuk or car from the villa heading towards the Deniyaya-Akuressa road for about 4 km.
Turn onto the signposted village path and park at the small clearing.
Follow the shaded trail downhill for 10 minutes to reach the falls.
Our villa host can arrange a local guide familiar with the route.
Morning (7:30 AM to 11:00 AM) when sunlight streams through the canopy into the falls.
- Wear sturdy walking shoes with good grip for the descent.
- Carry mosquito repellent as the jungle canopy keeps the area humid.
- Bring a waterproof bag for cameras — the mist can be quite heavy near the base.
