Natural Splendor

About Sinharaja UNESCO Rainforest Gateway

Lankagama is celebrated by seasoned naturalists as one of the most serene and ecologically intact gateways into the Sinharaja UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. Unlike crowded tourist entrances, the southern trails of Lankagama offer deep wilderness immersion.

As you step under the colossal green canopy of ancient Dipterocarp trees, you enter a living cathedral where over 60% of trees and 50% of wildlife species are found nowhere else on planet Earth. Listen closely for the vibrant mixed bird feeding flocks featuring the Sri Lanka Blue Magpie, Red-faced Malkoha, and White-faced Starling.

Our villa host Buddhika works closely with experienced, certified local forest trackers who can guide you along secret canopy trails, pointing out medicinal herbs, endemic tree frogs, dancing butterflies, and hidden forest creeks.
